OXTS recently rebranded, creating a fresh and modern new look for themselves that is a credit to the brand. But once the initial brand work and the website were done, it was time to turn to the mass of documentation – all of it in Word – that exists in the company.
That includes a variety of internal documents used to train new starters and document policies, right the way up to technical manuals hundreds of pages long. Some manuals hadn’t been rebranded for over a decade, and many were created by authors with different levels of proficiency in Word. Some had tables that were actually text boxes positioned to look like a table, while others had table captions missing, inconsistent heading styles, and more.
Pulling all those into order was a mammoth task, and one that would take the internal team away from BAU marketing activities without help. So they called me.
The first step in the project was to produce a template for the manuals that could quickly and easily be applied to each document. Once that was done, each manual had to be combed through in fine detail to catch exceptions where formatting hadn’t applied correctly, colours were slightly wrong, or table and figure labels hadn’t behaved as they were supposed to.
It was painstaking work, but OXTS’ manuals are now looking more fabulous and more functional than ever before, without overwhelming the internal team.
