My client had spent a tumultuous few years in the police, and wanted to write a memoir about their time. That memoir was partly for them to process everything that happened to them during that time, partly to hold on to those memories, and partly to help others looking to go into policing to get a complete picture of what it’s like.
However, with a full time job to do, finding the time to turn their notes into a full book – and one well-written enough to do do justice to their story – was impossible. Thankfully, they’d heard of me and got in touch asking about ghostwriting – and I was honoured to help bring their story to life.
I started off by reviewing the notes they’d made on the story so far, looking to turn that into a skeleton plot that had a coherent journey that a reader would find entertaining while staying true to what happened, and identifying any missing details that we would need to get.
With the skeleton completed, I wrote the book in sections. Work on each section began with an in-dept chat with my client, where we would talk through the notes for the section and any gaps. In fact, many of the most interesting sections of the book came from those chats! After each chat, I’d draft the section, and pass it to my client for their review.
The full process took around 6 months – and the book has now been self-published and is available on Amazon.
